RSV---Oh NO!

I have already experienced something, that no mother wants to experience. Something many mother go through, but I experienced it when my sweet baby boy was just 24 days old. Friday, Jan 22, I had a really cranky baby on my hands all day long. I just figured it was just something he was going through, but was I wrong. That evening when Aaron got home, things good worse. Miles ended up crying for about 2 1/2 hours that evening so finally we called the Dr. on call. The Dr. asked what Miles's symptoms were. He had a cough, which was making his throat really sore and was really congested. The Dr. advised us to give him Benadryl to try and dry him up and Tylenol to ease the pain from his cough. So we did that, and it really did not help. He wouldn't eat and all he wanted was for me to hold him, so I did....ALL night long. Sometime in the middle of the night, he started running a fever...so we called the Dr. on call again. It was only around 99.8 so they told us there was nothing they could do, but if it got up to 100.4 to call again. We continued to give him Tylenol every 4 hours for his pain and that was keeping his fever down. I had to hold him all night long to sleep, so we did not get much sleep. Aaron had to work Saturday morning, so there I was, at home with a sick baby. He continued to get worse and his fever continued climb. Aaron got home that afternoon, so we called the Dr again...his fever finally reached 101, so off to the ER we went, with our 24 day old baby. We get to our room in the ER and the real fun began. They began to poke my baby with needles, drawing blood, and did a lumbar puncture (spinal tap) and had to get a urine sample, so they used a catheter for that. Miles did great during that, as for me not so much. It was really hard to watch them poke your baby like that. They then told us that we would be in the hospital for at least 2 days. We finally made it up to a room, were they had to put oxygen on my baby. The next day they told us the spinal tap came back negative and so did the urine sample, so they need to test for RSV...by sticking a small tube down the nose of my son and getting a sample. I cried just as much as Miles cried. Not a pleasant experience. So for the next day, while waiting on the test results, we had to witness the nurses coming in and suctioning out his nose, with a tube....After the second time, I didn't cry anymore. Needless to say, after all of that, Miles has RSV. After 3 nights and 4 days in the hospital, we finally got to come home.

He is doing so great now, you would never know that he was that sick. I pray we never have to go through that again!!!! Here are some pictures of Miles's first hospital stay.

Miles like his machines, they made noises, so he had something to look at.

Going home...YAY

1 Month Old

WOW...it has been 1 month since Miles has blessed our family. A lot has happened in this poor little guy in month. Mommy and Miles have had lots of time getting use to each other and what each other likes. Here is what I have learned about my little guy...

He loves to cuddle....and mommy loves to cuddle with him.

For about the first three weeks, he did NOT like...his diaper to be changed, his clothes to be changed, or take a bath, but we are getting better.

Even though he is getting better at baths, he still does not like lotion...I guess he thinks he is a boy and there is no need for lotion being a boy.

He does not like waiting for his bottles to get warm and when he wants something, he wants it then...no waiting for this little guy.

He is not a heavy sleeper...he cat naps usually throughout the day.

At night, he thinks he MUST eat every 2 hours....mommy thinks he could go longer, but mommy is not in charge (so I have learned).

He is a wiggle worm...he has to be swaddled at night, if not, he will wake himself up, because he is moving so much.

He makes the cutest noises, and makes them all the time. He is a very very loud kid.

He can turn bright red in about 1.2 seconds.

He has already had 2 really, really bad diaper rashes and that makes him angry and then does not want his diaper changed.

He has the cutest little cough, and I am sad that I know that.

He is the sweetest, most perfect baby ever and I can not wait to see what will be happening the next month. Here are a few pictures (I didnt take any during week 2)
